The developers of Dune: Awakening, Funcom, have reassured players that they are taking substantial measures to minimize server-related issues when the game launches. In a detailed Steam post, the studio acknowledged the potential for overloads, a common problem in many popular MMOs, which can result in players being locked out or experiencing game crashes during the initial launch.
Drawing on their extensive experience from over 25 years in launching MMOs and survival games, Funcom expressed confidence in their preparedness for the expected influx of players. They emphasized the existence of numerous servers grouped into hundreds of Worlds available at launch. These servers will be strategically distributed globally, offering players low latency connections across multiple regions, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. In case of high demand, the studio has plans in place to quickly increase server capacity.
Each Hagga Basin server can accommodate 40 concurrent players, but due to fluctuations in player activity throughout the day, it can support several hundred players in total. Funcom explained that they have designed their systems to prevent overcrowding and allow for an efficient player experience by managing character creation on popular servers.
Additionally, they introduced a server queue feature, aiming to enhance player convenience. This queue means that if a server reaches its capacity, players will not have to rapidly click to secure a spot; they can log in and wait for a slot to become available. Funcom reassured that due to the dynamic nature of player populations, users should expect minimal wait times.
The anticipation surrounding Dune: Awakening is palpable, especially after positive first impressions from preview events. Players are eager to see how the game evolves and adapts to the competitive gaming landscape.
Overall, Funcom’s proactive approach to server management and community engagement shows promise for a smoother launch, likely enhancing player satisfaction. This careful planning bodes well for both the game’s overall success and its reception in the ever-competitive MMO market.
