Von Miller Faces Four-Game Suspension: What’s Next for the Bills?

Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller has been suspended for four games by the NFL due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy. The NFL did not disclose specific reasons for the suspension, which takes place as the Bills prepare for their upcoming match against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Miller, who currently leads all active players in sacks, will be eligible to return for the home game against Miami on November 3.

The suspension follows allegations made last November in which Miller was accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at their residence near Dallas during the Bills’ bye week. After turning himself in to authorities, he faced accusations of third-degree felony assault against a pregnant woman, which could carry a prison sentence of two to ten years and a $10,000 penalty.

Miller and the woman have been together for seven years and share two other children. So far, no charges have been filed against him. Miller expressed in July that he believed the matter was closed, based on his legal counsel’s advice. He stated, “My life is all about football right now and my kids, and being the best teammate and football player I can possibly be.”

At 35 years old, Miller has recorded three sacks in four games this season. Following a recovery from a torn knee ligament, he did not manage to secure a sack in 14 games last season, including playoffs. Overall, Miller has 126.5 career sacks, placing him tied for 17th on the all-time list alongside Derrick Thomas.

In his initial comments regarding the allegations made in December, Miller labeled the claims as false and exaggerated, acknowledging a disagreement with his girlfriend but denying any serious wrongdoing. A police affidavit detailing the incident from November 29 states that he allegedly physically confronted his girlfriend, resulting in minor injuries.

To fill Miller’s roster spot during his suspension, the Bills have signed defensive tackle Zion Logue from the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons. Logue, who played college football at Georgia, was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by Atlanta.
