Trail Transformation: Join the Conversation at Solana State Forest Open House!

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting an open house for those interested in both motorized and non-motorized recreational trail systems in the Solana State Forest, Aitkin County. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Aitkin High School, located at 306 2nd St. NW, Aitkin, MN 56431.

This open house serves as a platform for the public to engage in the trail revision planning process for Solana State Forest. Attendees will have the chance to provide feedback aimed at improving trail sustainability and enhancing user experiences. DNR representatives from various divisions will be on hand to discuss the planning process.

The planning may involve several trail-related actions, such as identifying new connections to facilities, classifying new trails, and rerouting or closing trails deemed unsustainable. Both motorized and non-motorized trails are part of this initiative.

Written comments can be sent via fax to 651-297-1157, via email to [email protected], or by mail to Molly Lou Pintok, DNR Parks and Trails, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4039.

Any designations regarding state forest trails, such as permitting motorized use or creating hunter walking trails, require a Commissioner’s Order to be published in the State Register. All divisions of the DNR are involved in this process.

For further information, individuals can contact the Parks and Trails Division at the Central Office in St. Paul at 651-259-5095 or the area office in Grand Rapids at 218-328-8984. Additional details are also available on the state forest trail planning page on the DNR website.
