Thanksgiving Kicks Off with South Florida’s Exciting Turkey Trot!

The Turkey Trot race is wrapping up in South Florida, marking the beginning of Thanksgiving celebrations in the area with great enthusiasm. The starting gun fired shortly after 7 a.m. at Tropical Park, kicking off the Thanksgiving Day race.

Alejandro Ocaña from Spain was among the first at the starting line and took home the winner’s title in the 10K race. “It was impressive. I’ve participated in previous years, and this year the race was very fast. We usually finish in 32 minutes, but this time we broke the 31-minute mark. Running 10K is tough. The heat was manageable, but there was quite a bit of humidity,” he commented.

News outlets reported that participants began arriving at Tropical Park as early as 4 a.m. “This is a race for the entire family. Families have grown with us,” said Frankie Ruiz, director of the Turkey Trot.

The event catered to everyone, including races for children covering distances of 100 and 300 meters. “The 5K and 10K races, along with the children’s runs, are some of the most delightful of the year,” observed Ruiz.

For some participants, this experience marked a significant moment. Carla Palmer, a first-time competitor in an organized race, expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m a little nervous, but I love starting Thanksgiving this way so I can eat everything I want later. I’m thrilled.”
