Caleb Martin is set to join the Philadelphia 76ers with a four-year deal worth over $32 million, sources revealed to ESPN on Saturday. The free-agent forward, known for his playoff experience and defensive versatility, comes to Philadelphia after three seasons with the Miami Heat.
Martin is expected to become the starting power forward for the Sixers, joining a frontcourt alongside All-NBA forward Paul George and MVP center Joel Embiid. Other notable free agents joining the 76ers include George, Eric Gordon, and Andre Drummond.
In a corresponding move, the Sixers are waiving forward/center Paul Reed, who has a non-guaranteed contract for the upcoming season, according to sources.
At 28, Martin has shown significant prowess against the Boston Celtics, the reigning NBA champions. He has averaged 13.6 points on 50% shooting in both regular and postseason games against the Celtics over the last two years. This is Martin’s highest points-per-game average against an Eastern Conference team.
Martin’s standout moments include four career 25-point games, with two of those performances coming in the 2023 Eastern Conference finals against Boston. Last season, he achieved career highs, averaging 10.0 points, 2.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game.
