Jon Landau, an Oscar-winning producer and longtime collaborator of director James Cameron, passed away on Friday in Los Angeles at the age of 63.
His family announced his death in a statement released by Disney Entertainment, but the cause of death was not disclosed.
Landau and Cameron’s collaboration spanned decades and resulted in some of the highest-grossing films in history. Their first project together, “Titanic,” made box office history by becoming the first film to gross over $1 billion globally following its 1997 release. The movie’s total earnings of $1.84 billion were later surpassed by their next joint venture, the science-fiction epic “Avatar” (2009).
“Titanic” earned 14 Oscar nominations and won 11, including the award for best picture, shared by Cameron and Landau.
