The Public Service Commission has announced a major restructuring of Permanent Secretaries across key ministries, a move supported by the Prime Minister to improve administrative efficiency and better meet the diverse needs of different sectors.
Effective January 5, 2026, Peni Sikivou will assume the position of Acting Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Business Development, succeeding Shaheen Ali, whose contract will conclude. Sikivou is expected to serve in this capacity for a maximum of four months, during which time a permanent successor will be selected.
Selina Kuruleca, currently the Permanent Secretary for Justice, will additionally take on the role of Acting Permanent Secretary for Women, Children, and Social Protection on a part-time basis, beginning January 19. She will maintain her primary responsibilities within the Justice Ministry.
In another notable change, Atelaite Rokosuka is transitioning from her role as Permanent Secretary for Fisheries and Forestry to become the Head of the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service, starting January 12. This move highlights the government’s strategy to utilize experienced leaders in pivotal educational roles.
Eseta Nadakuitavuki will also undergo a transition, moving from her position within Women, Children, and Social Protection to assume the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, effective January 19.
These leadership adjustments underscore the government’s ongoing commitment to optimize its administrative framework, ensuring the public service remains agile and responsive to the evolving challenges facing the nation.
