With the Stanley Cup Final fast approaching, Aaron Ekblad, the 29-year-old defenseman of the Florida Panthers, has made his intentions crystal clear regarding his future with the team. As he prepares for his second straight appearance in the finals, Ekblad is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season but emphasizes his desire to remain with the Panthers, the only NHL team he’s ever known.
“I live and breathe for the Florida Panthers. I bleed for the Florida Panthers. I’ve given my body and everything to this team. I want to keep doing it forever, for as long as they’ll let me keep coming to the rink,” he said during a media session leading up to the finals.
Ekblad, who was drafted first overall by the Panthers in 2014, has dedicated all 11 of his NHL seasons to the franchise based in Florida. In the recently concluded regular season, he recorded three goals and 30 assists, totaling 33 points. His playoff performance has also been commendable, contributing three goals and eight assists in 13 games.
As the Panthers gear up to face off against the Edmonton Oilers for the championship, Ekblad’s commitment to the team reflects a strong bond and loyalty, which many fans admire. The upcoming finals not only showcase Ekblad’s talent but also serve as a testament to the enduring relationships players cultivate with their teams.
