He recalled a memorable moment involving the late Carrie Fisher, known for her portrayal of Princess Leia, who once pointed out his reluctance to acknowledge his Star Wars legacy in his Playbill biography.
In the interview, Hamill recounted how Fisher encouraged him to embrace his connection to Star Wars rather than downplay it. Initially, Hamill had listed his theater credits in his bio and vaguely alluded to his role in “a series of popular space movies.” Fisher’s straightforward advice was, “Hey, get over yourself. You’re Luke Skywalker, I’m Princess Leia. Embrace it.”
Reflecting on that moment, Hamill concluded that Fisher’s perspective made him reconsider his stance. Despite being an integral part of the franchise and making recent appearances in shows like The Mandalorian, Hamill stated that he believes it’s time for new characters to take center stage. “I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters,” he emphasized, praising the franchise’s origins with creator George Lucas.
