HOUSTON – A man was rescued from the roof of his truck after being stranded by rising floodwaters in the Houston area on Monday. This incident occurred after Hurricane Beryl made landfall along the Texas coast.

The rescue operation, which was captured on camera, took place along southbound Highway 288 at Interstate 610 near Holly Hall.

Houston firefighters acted swiftly, using a ladder to save the driver from his submerged vehicle.

Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, early Monday morning as a Category 1 hurricane. The storm has already resulted in two fatalities in Harris County, Texas, and at least 10 deaths across the Caribbean.

As of the 10 a.m. CT update, Beryl’s peak sustained winds had decreased from 80 mph at landfall to 70 mph as the storm moved about 20 miles west of Houston.

Currently, over 2.5 million electricity customers in Texas are without power, with outages continuing to increase due to strong winds and heavy rainfall, which is occurring at rates of 2–4 inches per hour.

The National Hurricane Center has issued warnings for damaging winds, flash flooding, and storm surge in the Houston and Galveston areas throughout Monday.
