Díaz Shines: Barcelona Star Celebrated as Olympic Hero

Jordan Díaz, an athlete from FC Barcelona and a champion triple-jumper, received an enthusiastic reception from fans today. The Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist showcased his medal at the Estadi Olímpic prior to the UEFA Champions League match between Barça and Young Boys, prompting resounding applause.

Díaz secured the Olympic title in Paris with a jump of 17.86 meters, finishing ahead of competitors Pedro Pichardo and Andy Díaz. Although originally from Cuba, he competes for Spain and also earned the title of European champion in 2024.

The 23-year-old holds the Spanish triple jump record with a remarkable leap of 18.18 meters, making it the third longest jump in history. However, he still aims to break Jonathan Edwards’ world record of 18.29 meters, established in 1995.

At the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Díaz had the honor of serving as a flag bearer alongside race walker María Pérez.

Overall, FC Barcelona had a notable presence at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with eight of its 25 athletes taking home medals. The club excelled in athletics, football, and handball, clinching five golds—one from Díaz, another from handball goalkeeper Emil Nielssen, and three from football players Fermín López, Pau Cubarsí, and Eric García—along with three bronzes earned by handball players Aleix Gómez, Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas, and Javi Rodríguez.
