“Alcaraz and Sinner Triumph in Wimbledon Quarterfinals”

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals after a hard-fought victory over Ugo Humbert. Alcaraz, showcasing his resilience, won 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 on Centre Court. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner also moved forward, defeating Ben Shelton with a 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (9) win.

Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. Medvedev progressed after Grigor Dimitrov was forced to withdraw due to injury, trailing 5-3 in the first set.

Alcaraz and Sinner previously faced each other in a five-set match at the French Open semifinals, where Alcaraz emerged victorious. They may meet again in the Wimbledon semifinals if they win their next matches.

During his match, Alcaraz looked set to win after taking the second set, but Humbert nearly staged a comeback. Alcaraz ultimately secured victory with crucial shots, including aces and a forehand winner, sealing the match with a service winner. Alcaraz will next play against No. 12 Tommy Paul.

Sinner faced aggressive play from Shelton but managed to take the first set. He solidified his lead with a strong serve and earned a two-set advantage. Although Shelton led 4-1 in the third set, Sinner rallied back, saving multiple set points and clinching the match after Shelton double-faulted on Sinner’s match point.

Sinner is reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. He lost to Novak Djokovic in last year’s semifinals.

Dimitrov started well against Medvedev but fell due to an injury after slipping on the court. Medvedev, capitalizing on the opportunity, advanced after Dimitrov called it a day following a medical timeout.
