Zach Bryan has disabled his Twitter/X account following a controversial tweet in which he stated his preference for Kanye West over Taylor Swift while under the influence of alcohol. On Tuesday night, the singer, who is known for his support of the Philadelphia Eagles, tweeted, “eagles > chiefs Kanye > Taylor who’s with me,” which ignited backlash from Swift’s fans.
In response to the uproar, Bryan clarified on Wednesday that his comments were made “drunkenly” after listening to Swift’s song “Thank You Aimee,” which is seen as a critique of Kanye West and his former spouse Kim Kardashian. He expressed his admiration for both artists, stating, “If anyone took it serious please know I love both artists a lot and think we’re in a really beautiful time of music.”
Despite his explanation, Bryan chose to deactivate his Twitter/X account, which remained inactive as of Thursday morning. However, he took to Instagram to address the situation further. In his Stories, he expressed remorse and clarified that he did not intend to insult Swift. “I was drunkenly comparing two records and it came out wrong,” he said, emphasizing his respect for Swift’s contributions to music.
Bryan mentioned that he finds Twitter to be a source of trouble and apologized to any fans he may have upset. He also shared that he has been dealing with personal challenges, which may have influenced his errant comments. Continuing to praise Swift as an influential figure in music, he confirmed his decision to step back from tweeting.
He concluded by reminding his followers, “Don’t drink and tweet!!”
