Zach Bryan has decided to deactivate his Twitter/X account after expressing his preference for Kanye West over Taylor Swift while under the influence. However, he reached out on Instagram to clarify his comments on Thursday morning.
The controversy began Tuesday night when Bryan, a passionate supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles, tweeted, “eagles > chiefs Kanye > Taylor who’s with me,” following the Eagles’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. This tweet sparked a significant backlash from Taylor Swift’s fans, prompting Bryan to issue a follow-up message on Wednesday. He admitted that he had “drunkenly” made the remark after listening to Swift’s song “Thank You Aimee,” which critiques Kanye West.
In his follow-up message, Bryan reassured fans, saying, “Guys I love Taylor, was listening to TTPD last night… If anyone took it serious please know I love both artists a lot.” Despite his attempts to clarify, the damage was done, and he subsequently deactivated his Twitter/X account.
Bryan remains active on Instagram, where he shared a detailed statement along with an audio clip of Swift’s song “Fortnight.” He explained that he wasn’t intending to undermine Swift with his previous tweet and acknowledged that his words were misinterpreted.
“For the record guys I wasn’t coming for Taylor the other night,” he wrote. “I was drunkenly comparing two records and it came out wrong… I love Taylor’s music and pray you guys know I’m human and tweet stupid things often.”
Bryan also commented on his Twitter deactivation, stating, “Twitter gets me in trouble too much… I’m sorry to any Taylor fans I pissed off or let down.” He expressed his admiration for Swift, calling her “a force of nature” and confirmed his decision to step back from Twitter/X to focus on himself and his music.
In closing, he shared one last message: “Don’t drink and tweet!!”
