Zach Bryan’s Controversial Tweet Sparks Social Media Storm

Zach Bryan has shut down his Twitter/X account after making a controversial comment favoring Kanye West over Taylor Swift, a statement he later attributed to being “drunken.” On Tuesday night, Bryan, who is known for his support of the Philadelphia Eagles, tweeted, “eagles > chiefs Kanye > Taylor who’s with me,” following the Eagles’ defeat by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl.

This tweet quickly elicited a strong backlash from Taylor Swift fans, prompting Bryan to post a follow-up on Wednesday, where he explained that he had been drinking while listening to Swift’s song “Thank You Aimee.” He stated, “Guys I love Taylor, was listening to TTPD last night and thank you aimee came on and I drunkenly tweeted about Kanye.” He reassured fans that he appreciates both artists and values the current musical landscape.

Despite his clarification, Bryan decided to deactivate his Twitter/X account, which remained inactive by Thursday morning. However, he took to Instagram to express his feelings further. In his Stories, he shared a lengthy explanation accompanied by Swift’s track “Fortnight,” emphasizing that he wasn’t trying to attack Swift.

“For the record guys I wasn’t coming for Taylor the other night,” Bryan wrote. He acknowledged that his comment was poorly articulated and shared his admiration for Swift’s work. He also noted that social media can lead to trouble, stating, “Twitter gets me in trouble too much and I’d say it’s best I stay off it. I’m sorry to any Taylor fans I pissed off or let down.”

In another Instagram Story featuring Swift’s “The Albatross,” he mentioned personal struggles, admitting that he might have been projecting his emotions. He reiterated his respect for Swift and his desire to take a break from social media. “I’m going to take a breather from tweeting stupid stuff, finish my tour, and ground myself somehow in the midst of all this,” he concluded, reminding everyone, “Don’t drink and tweet!!”
