Yungblud is set to unveil a new collaboration with The Smashing Pumpkins on January 2, featuring a reimagined version of his hit song “Zombie.” The 28-year-old British singer made the announcement via an Instagram post, sharing an image alongside Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and expressing excitement for the upcoming release. “Zombie with The Smashing Pumpkins out worldwide midnight,” he wrote, hinting at the premiere of the accompanying music video.
In his post, Yungblud shared striking black-and-white images that capture moments with The Smashing Pumpkins, including a dynamic shot with Corgan that is likely from their forthcoming video. A teaser snippet was also shared on his Instagram Stories, building anticipation among fans.
“Zombie,” which is vying for best rock song at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards, features on Yungblud’s latest project, the album Idols, a nominee for best rock album. Yungblud shared insights into the collaboration during an interview with Loudwire, revealing that the creative process was heavily influenced by the iconic sound of The Smashing Pumpkins’ album Siamese Dream. He aimed to merge somber emotions with the powerful guitar riffs characteristic of Corgan’s work.
While the original version of “Zombie” was heavier, Yungblud adjusted the sound to avoid similarity to the Pumpkins’ style, yet he felt there was room for a different interpretation. He reached out to Corgan, stating, “I want this record to dig in harder.” He spoke of the necessity for duality in the track, balancing light and optimism with dark, more aggressive undertones.
Just days after their discussion, Yungblud traveled to Chicago—home to The Smashing Pumpkins—to record the song and its music video. This collaboration marks another significant partnership for Yungblud, who previously collaborated with Aerosmith on the track “My Only Angel,” which recently topped Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart as part of the EP One More Time.
Yungblud’s album Idols, released in June, has been met with commercial success, debuting at the top of the U.K. Albums Chart and attaining a No. 15 position on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart. With this exciting new collaboration, fans can look forward to a unique blend of nostalgia and modern rock energy as Yungblud continues to push creative boundaries in his music.
