Yung Filly, the British YouTuber turned rapper, has been charged with the rape of a woman in Australia. The allegations relate to an incident that occurred after a performance at a nightclub in Western Australia.
The Government of Western Australia announced on Thursday that a man was apprehended in Brisbane earlier this week and subsequently extradited to Perth for a court appearance on sexual assault charges. These charges comprise four counts of rape, three counts of assault causing bodily harm, and one count of obstructing a person’s breathing by applying pressure to their neck.
The 29-year-old artist, whose real name is Andrés Felipe Valencia Barrientos, has not yet responded to requests for comment from media outlets. Similarly, the Western Australia Police Force has not provided any further details regarding the case.
The alleged incident took place in Yung Filly’s hotel room in Perth on September 28, following his performance at Hillarys Bar1 Nightclub the night before. His Australian tour also included stops in other major cities such as Melbourne, Sydney, and Gold Coast.
Yung Filly was represented in court by barrister Seamus Rafferty SC, who applied for bail on his behalf.
Originally from Colombia, Yung Filly is now based in southeast London. He began creating online content as a teenager and rose to fame through his “Asking Awkward Questions” YouTube series. In a 2022 interview, he expressed that while he gained recognition on YouTube, his true passion lay in music.
With over 1.8 million subscribers on YouTube and 3.2 million followers on Instagram, Yung Filly has also hosted the BBC Three series “Hot Property” and participated in Channel 4’s “Great Celebrity Bake Off” fundraiser in 2022. He and fellow social media personality Chunkz received the media personality award at the 2021 Mobo Awards.
