An 8-year-old girl from Bedford, Ohio, took an adventurous step by driving her mother’s SUV to a Target store, sparking a police investigation. This unusual incident unfolded on a Sunday morning when the girl, navigating a 2020 Nissan Rogue, embarked on a solo trip covering nearly 13 miles.
The Bedford Police Department was alerted after the girl’s family reported her and the vehicle missing around 9 a.m. The situation took an interesting turn when neighbors provided surveillance footage from their Ring doorbell cameras, showing the girl as she entered the driver’s seat and drove away.
Despite her lack of driving experience, the young girl reportedly managed to steer the vehicle for roughly 25 minutes before arriving at the Target. During her trip, she acknowledged hitting a mailbox, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Several concerned citizens noticed the SUV swerving on the road and contacted the authorities, who initially struggled to locate the vehicle. Eventually, Flock cameras helped track it down near Pettibone Road, leading the police to the Target parking lot.
When police found her inside the store, she was enjoying a Frappuccino. Although it was unclear if she made any purchases, officials allowed her to finish her drink before she was reunited with her understandably astonished family.
While this incident has raised numerous questions, the girl is too young to face any legal penalties. The investigation continues, but authorities are relieved that the only damage reported was to a mailbox, underscoring the unpredictable nature of everyday life when children are involved.
