Yankees Hopeful as Key Players Tackle Injury Comebacks

In New York, Yankees closer Luke Weaver is undergoing treatment for a hamstring injury sustained during warm-ups against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection aimed at accelerating the healing process and is expected to be out for four to six weeks. Weaver has been performing well this season, with a record of 1-1, a remarkable 1.05 ERA, and eight saves out of nine opportunities. The 31-year-old right-hander is on track to become a free agent this autumn.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed optimism about Weaver’s condition, noting that he was already throwing the day after the injury and is encouraged by the recovery timeline. “He’s pretty encouraged and optimistic considering the injury and the timeline with it, so hopefully he does better than that,” Boone said ahead of a matchup with the Boston Red Sox.

In another update, designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is progressing in his recovery from elbow epicondylitis, a repetitive stress injury that has kept him sidelined since before spring training. Boone indicated that Stanton is expected to start a minor league rehabilitation assignment next week. The slugger has been focusing on live batting practice and full workouts in Tampa.

Stanton, who hit .233 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs last season, has struggled with injuries over the past few years. His history includes not playing a full season since 2018 and missing a significant number of games due to various injuries. Collectively, he has missed 294 of 870 games (34%) in the past six seasons, which has raised concerns about his durability.

As the Yankees navigate through injury challenges, there is hope that both Weaver’s and Stanton’s recoveries will bolster the team’s performance as they move deeper into the season.
