Thousands of Xfinity customers in Southeast Albuquerque have experienced internet disruptions for nearly 24 hours. According to Comcast spokesperson Kyle Biederwolf, around 10% of residential and commercial clients in Albuquerque are affected by the outage.

The interruption began at approximately 6 p.m. on Monday and continued into Tuesday evening. Comcast has confirmed that their technicians are actively working to restore internet services, expressing their apologies for the inconveniences faced by customers.

The outage was attributed to damage caused by a third-party entity, specifically linked to New Mexico Gas Co. (NMGC). Tim Korte, NMGC’s public information officer, explained that a team inadvertently damaged the internet line while addressing a gas leak near Elm and Silver. It was determined that the leak resulted from a third-party contractor, Denca, who was performing a boring operation to install fiber optic cables. Documentation from NM811 indicated that Denca hit a two-inch plastic gas line during their work.

As residents await the restoration of their internet service, Comcast remains committed to resolving the issue swiftly. The company understands the importance of reliable internet access in today’s world and assures its customers that they are doing everything possible to rectify the situation.

This outage serves as a reminder of the intricacies involved in utility work and the importance of clear communication among utility companies, contractors, and residents. Hopefully, after this incident, better coordination can be established to prevent future outages.
