LARAMIE – Meghan Vogt, a senior golfer from the University of Wyoming, is set to compete in the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship next Monday through Wednesday at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. This event marks an important milestone for Vogt, who recently tied for 32nd place in the Mountain West Championships after overcoming a challenging two-year battle with injuries.
Vogt expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this prestigious postseason event, saying, “I’m just grateful for the opportunity to play in a postseason event and finish on a high note for myself and Coach. Also, just being able to represent the university and our program at a special place at an event hosted by the PGA, that’s really cool.”
In the women’s individual division, Vogt stands out as the only representative from the Mountain West Conference among 21 competitors participating in the 54-hole tournament. Whistling Straits has a rich history, having hosted notable events including the 2004, 2010, and 2015 PGA Championships, as well as the 2021 Ryder Cup.
Vogt’s passion for the game shines through as she prepares to play on a course known for its challenging conditions, characterized by “lots of heavy grass and stuff.” She is excited to embrace the competitive style of golf featured at such an iconic venue.
Despite facing injury setbacks during her sophomore and junior years, Vogt made significant strides in her recovery. Notably, at the 2024 Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic hosted by Colorado State, she recorded a program record for the lowest two-round score at -7. Vogt will graduate this month with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences and plans to pursue an MBA while taking advantage of her extra year of eligibility.
Reflecting on her journey, Vogt shared, “This past season has been eye-opening after almost two years off, but it’s something I’m grateful for. I had a lot of highs and lows. It was something I needed to go through, honestly, just for me to really go into next year and finish on a high note and be a leader on the team.”
As Vogt prepares to lead a promising Cowgirl team that includes recent Mountain West freshmen of the week selections Lucia Morelli and Kira Reisner, along with fellow players Samantha Spielman from Sheridan and Sophie Spiva from Casper, there is optimism for a strong season ahead.
This story serves as an inspiring reminder of resilience and determination in the face of adversity, highlighting the importance of seizing opportunities and leading by example.
