Wrexham’s Harry Ashfield targets regular minutes in EFL Cup clash with Preston North End

Harry Ashfield is aiming to play as many games as possible this season as he looks to impress in the EFL Cup this week. The 19-year-old has made only one appearance so far this campaign, which came in Wrexham’s first-round penalty shootout win over Hull City in August.

Having been named on the bench for Saturday’s Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday, Ashfield is expected to feature in round two of the EFL Cup when Wrexham travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End at 19:45 BST on Tuesday night.

Asked about his aims for the season, Ashfield said: “Obviously to play as many games as possible, just showcase what I can do and help the team when needed. He [Parkinson] just wants me to show what I can do on the pitch when he gives me the opportunity. Being on the bench the other day was a good moment, I just want to push on and it means everything. I just learn in training from the players we’ve brought in and then push on. Hopefully I’ll play as many games as possible this year. It’s an exciting time to be at the club.”

What this means for Ashfield is clear: more opportunities to prove himself in competitive fixtures, with manager Phil Parkinson keen for him to take his chances when selected and to continue learning from new signings in training. If he can seize more game time, he could carve out an important role as Wrexham navigate a busy schedule.

Summary: 19-year-old Harry Ashfield is focused on earning regular senior minutes this season, using cup ties like the upcoming EFL Cup clash with Preston North End to showcase his development and push for more involvement.

Extra notes:
– A positive trajectory for a young player often hinges on how effectively they translate training lessons into match impact, especially in cup competitions.
– This period could be pivotal for Ashfield’s development, signaling whether he becomes a longer-term fixture in Wrexham’s squad.
