Woodson weighs in on A.J. Brown’s slow start amid Eagles’ offensive slump

A.J. Brown’s struggles with the Philadelphia Eagles have raised eyebrows, and former NFL star Charles Woodson has offered insights into the situation on “FOX NFL Kickoff.” Woodson believes that the issues stem from Brown not meeting his usual production levels, causing frustration for the talented wide receiver.

With just 25 receptions for 274 yards and a single touchdown over the first six games of the season, Brown’s current performance is a significant drop from his previous success. Woodson empathizes with Brown, sharing that the wide receiver likely feels discontent as he watches other players around the league shine while he remains underutilized.

“As A.J. Brown looks across the league and sees quarterbacks and receivers thriving, it’s clear why his frustration is mounting,” Woodson remarked. He referenced performances from players like Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Emeka Egbuka, who have excelled with quarterbacks that are not considered elite. This growing disparity in production has likely left Brown questioning why, despite having what many consider a top-five quarterback in Jalen Hurts, he is unable to achieve similar success.

Throughout his first two seasons with the Eagles, Brown was among the top five in receiving yards but has experienced a downturn in stats over the past two years. After averaging an impressive 86.8 yards per game in 2022 and 2023, he has since seen that average decline to just 71 yards per game since 2024, and this season, it’s dropped to 45.7 yards per game, placing him 31st among qualified receivers.

Despite the Eagles holding a 4-2 record, their offensive performance has not mirrored their success, ranking 29th in total yards per game, a significant decrease from their eighth-place finish last season. This decline further fuels the perception that the team needs to address its offensive struggles to bring out the best in Brown.

Woodson highlighted the stark contrast in productivity across the league, suggesting that A.J. Brown, alongside fellow receiver DeVonta Smith, should be lowering their frustrations and finding ways to harness their talents. With the Eagles looking to improve before the playoffs, finding a solution to Brown’s underwhelming performance could be key to their success moving forward.
