Wizz Air, the Hungarian low-cost airline, has urgently suspended several of its Middle East routes following a significant escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran, affecting travel plans for thousands of passengers across Europe. The airline has officially called off all flights to Israel and key Gulf destinations, including routes to Tel Aviv, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Amman, due to the worsening security conditions in the region.

As reported by Hungarian news outlet 444.hu, the suspension of these flights is effective until at least March 7. Wizz Air stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and is working in partnership with external security experts while maintaining communication with aviation, security, and government authorities at both local and international levels. The airline emphasized that ensuring the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft is their top priority. Those affected by the flight cancellations are being contacted directly regarding rebooking options and refund processes.

The disruption is not isolated to Hungary, as reported by the Cyprus Mail. Numerous airlines have cancelled flights between Cyprus and the Middle East in light of the recent conflict escalation involving the U.S. and Israel’s actions against Iran. Wizz Air’s cancellations have also affected services from Larnaca, including flights to Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi. Arrival and departure boards indicated multiple last-minute changes over the weekend.

Other carriers have also taken similar actions, with Ryanair cancelling its route from Paphos to Amman, and Air Haifa terminating flights connecting Paphos with Haifa. Despite the widespread disruptions across the board, some airlines are still operating flights. For instance, Cyprus Airways has continued its check-in for flights to Dubai and Beirut, while Qatar Airways has managed to operate its inbound service from Doha as scheduled.

At this time, no official updates have been made regarding operations by Emirates, Sundor, Arkia, or Israir regarding their routes between Cyprus and Israel. Given the unpredictable nature of the situation, passengers are strongly advised to check their flight status prior to traveling to the airport. Further cancellations or extensions of existing flight suspensions remain possible if the security environment continues to deteriorate.
