SPOILER ALERT! This article contains details regarding the fourth episode of Marvel’s Agatha All Along.
In the fourth episode, titled “If I Can’t Reach You/Let My Song Teach You,” the story picks up with the aftermath of Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp) dying from poisoned wine, an event related to the first trial that was introduced in Episode 3. The poison was discovered by Jennifer Kale, played by Sasheer Zamata. A character known as Teen digs a grave for Mrs. Hart on Witches Road, while Alice reveals her mother Lorna Wu actually died in a hotel fire during a tour, not on the road as previously suggested.
As Teen pays his respects with flowers, Lilia expresses concern over the amount of antidote Mrs. Hart may have consumed, given she had two glasses of wine. Agatha attempts to move on, but the coven refuses to leave. During a discussion about the Ballad of the Witches Road, they debate lyrics and Agatha reflects on how many witches departed the road with her previously.
Alice, Jenn, and Lilia insist on finding a replacement green witch to join their coven. Each member outlines their criteria for the new witch. Upon their summoning, Rio Vidal, played by Aubrey Plaza, appears instead of a typical substitute. Although initially worried that they might have turned Mrs. Hart into a zombie, they realize it is just Rio, who confidently claims to be “THE Green Witch.”
As they set off on a new trial, they encounter a woodsy house. Despite Alice’s reluctance to enter, the group moves forward. Inside, they find elements reminiscent of a 70s rock band. Tensions rise as they discern hints of the upcoming trial, which appears to relate to music.
As they explore, Lilia finds distressing imagery, and tensions escalate when Alice discovers a photo of her mother. The revelation that Alice’s mother intended to open the road through her concerts leads to further emotional moments.
Throughout the episode, Agatha navigates her complex feelings towards her coven and past events, culminating in a musical trial where they must play Lorna’s version of The Ballad of the Witches’ Road to combat a generational curse. The performance brings to light Alice’s traumatic memories and her connection to the curse, leading to a chase with a fearsome creature.
The episode concludes with themes of legacy, regrets, and emotional scars, as the coven begins to bond over their shared experiences. Agatha and Rio share a poignant moment, hinting at their complicated relationship dynamics, while the trials continue for the group. With two trials completed, they face the challenges ahead, united yet troubled.
