Eugene, Ore. – The Wisconsin Badgers suffered a defeat against the No. 6 Oregon Ducks on Saturday night at Autzen Stadium, falling 21-7 in a clash that primarily showcased strong defensive efforts amid challenging rainy conditions.
Wisconsin’s defense shone brightly, particularly in the first half, where they managed to limit the Ducks, who boast the nation’s second-highest scoring offense, to just 125 yards and a single touchdown. The Badgers demonstrated their defensive prowess by recording seven tackles for loss (TFLs), the highest in Big Ten play this season.
The game marked the first career starts for true freshmen linebackers Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano. Posa was standout performer, leading the Badgers with 13 tackles—the most for a true freshman in a single game since Chris Orr in 2015. Their energetic play set the tone early, as the Badgers held Oregon to a mere 21 yards in the first quarter.
Despite the spirited defensive display, Oregon found its rhythm in the second half. The Ducks scored early with a 20-yard touchdown run on their opening drive after the break, extending their lead to 14-0. Wisconsin struggled to muster a response, facing difficulties in the slippery conditions.
A fourth-quarter surge allowed Wisconsin to finally get on the board. Quarterback Hunter Simmons connected with Eugene Hilton Jr. for a crucial 42-yard gain during a 12-play, 78-yard drive, culminating in a two-yard touchdown reception for tight end Lance Mason.
Looking ahead, the Badgers will take a bye week before returning to Madison to host the Washington Huskies on Saturday, November 8, at Camp Randall Stadium. This matchup kicks off a pivotal November stretch for Wisconsin, as they will face Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota in the following weeks. Fans remain hopeful that the team’s defensive strengths and upcoming schedule will lead to stronger performances as the season progresses.
