As winter slowly fades away, a significant warm-up is on the horizon for the Philadelphia area. The NBC10 First Alert 10 Day Forecast projects temperatures soaring into the 60s this weekend and potentially reaching the low to mid 70s next week.

However, before everyone can fully embrace the warmth, a final cold snap accompanied by a wintry mix is expected.

On Monday, chilly temperatures will persist with afternoon highs only climbing to the upper 30s, which is notably below the early March average of 48 degrees. The transition to wintry weather begins overnight, with temperatures dipping below freezing.

Early Tuesday morning, between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., light snow is anticipated as a warm front approaches the region. The forecast indicates:

– A brief period of light snow in Philadelphia before sunrise,
– A potential dusting on grass and colder surfaces,
– Up to an inch of accumulation in higher elevations such as Berks County and the Lehigh Valley,
– A short duration of freezing rain in certain areas,
– Ultimately transitioning to rain as temperatures rise throughout the day.

While there could be a few slick spots on untreated roadways, driveways, and sidewalks for the morning commute, this event is not expected to be significant. Most of the region will see a chilly rain that washes away early morning wintry precipitation.

Once this system clears, a clear change in weather will begin, with temperatures steadily rising throughout the week. Expect daily highs in the 50s from Wednesday through Friday, with the weekend seeing temperatures in the mid-60s on Saturday and possibly reaching the low 70s by Sunday and into the following week. Such temperatures are more consistent with late spring than early March, marking a genuine preview of spring for the Delaware Valley.

With only one more cold morning left, residents can look forward to warm, pleasant weather ahead as winter gives way to a brighter, warmer season.
