A significant winter storm is set to impact Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey this weekend, potentially bringing up to four inches of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, which could create hazardous travel conditions. As predicted by the National Weather Service, winter storm watches were issued for almost all of Eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, starting Friday, December 26, 2025.

Meteorologist Sue Serio from FOX 29 indicates that the storm’s effects will differ based on location, stating, “What you get (snow, sleet, freezing rain) depends on where you are.” This mix of wintry precipitation is expected to start affecting the Philadelphia area around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. on Friday, moving from the west to the east, with areas in South Jersey and Delaware likely seeing rain overnight.

Forecasts suggest that the Philadelphia region will receive between 1.5 and 4 inches of snow. More specifically, northern Delaware might see around one to two inches, while locations further north could experience even higher totals. In Trenton, approximately 30 miles north of Philadelphia, there is a 63% likelihood of accumulating four inches or more.

Among the concerns for the weekend is the potential for significant ice accumulation, which could render streets and sidewalks dangerously slippery. Consequently, the National Weather Service advises that individuals consider postponing travel until after the storm has passed. Those who must travel are urged to exercise caution and be prepared with emergency supplies in the event of becoming stranded.

As this winter storm approaches, residents are reminded to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety throughout the holiday weekend.
