The Dallas Mavericks have become the latest NBA team to face disruptions due to a severe winter storm affecting large areas of the United States. The league announced the postponement of the scheduled game on Sunday, January 25, against the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum, citing inclement weather as the primary reason.

As of 3 p.m. CT, the Mavericks were still waiting to board their plane at the Dallas airport, which was stranded on the tarmac ahead of their originally planned tip-off at 7 p.m. ET. Previously, the game start had already been delayed to 8 p.m. ET, but ultimately the NBA made the decision to postpone the match altogether.

Currently, there is no information regarding a rescheduled date for the game. This matchup marks the third game this weekend that has been impacted by the winter storm, which has brought several inches of snow to the Midwest and icy conditions to southern states. Reports indicate that temperatures in some regions may plummet as low as -58 degrees. In response to the extreme weather, a total of 17 states have declared a state of emergency.

Earlier this weekend, the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets game was rescheduled to an earlier time. Additionally, the game between the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday has also been postponed.

In the midst of these challenges, NBA insider Marc Stein provided updates on the Los Angeles Lakers, who had recently played in Dallas. The team made efforts to fly to Chicago on Sunday afternoon for a game against the Bulls scheduled for Monday. Reports confirm that the Lakers’ plane managed to depart Dallas later in the evening.

This situation underscores the impact that extreme weather can have on professional sports schedules, but the league and teams are working diligently to ensure player safety while seeking alternative arrangements for upcoming games.
