As autumn continues to make its presence known, the weather is already signaling the approach of winter. Recent temperatures have varied widely, with some days basking in warmth while others have delivered brisk, chilly weather. This fluctuation raises questions about what the upcoming winter will look like and how individuals can support those in need during the colder months.

AccuWeather has provided forecasts for the winter of 2025-26, detailing what residents can expect. The colder conditions are anticipated to set in by early December, easing slightly in January before returning with greater intensity in February, which is likely to experience significant cold.

Overall, temperatures are expected to be 1-2 degrees above historical averages, indicating that while winter will still be harsh, it may not be as severe as in previous years.

On the snow front, AccuWeather predicts that the heaviest snowfall will occur both at the onset and culmination of the winter season. Early winter storms are expected to begin in Canada and the Midwest, eventually affecting the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. By late winter, storms will pivot eastward, delivering snow from the Plains and Mississippi Valley to the East Coast. Notably, areas such as Philadelphia and New York City can expect higher snowfall compared to last winter. Philadelphia received 8.1 inches last year, and this season, AccuWeather anticipates totals between 14-18 inches. However, even with this increase, the total snowfall for Philadelphia remains below the historical average of 23.1 inches.

For those feeling the spirit of the season, the Give A Christmas initiative is underway, providing financial support to low-income families in Burlington County. This campaign, organized through the Burlington County Times and NJ211, aims to assist families with children during the holidays. Last year, the initiative raised $68,050, which was distributed among 530 local families in the form of $50 Amazon gift cards.

Any family in Burlington County that meets low-income criteria and has children can apply for assistance through Give A Christmas. Applications are currently open and can be submitted via the Burlington County Times website or through a text message system. Key documents, including proof of residency and income, must be submitted by Dec. 5, with applications closing on Nov. 28.

Donations to the cause are encouraged from anyone, regardless of location. Contributions can be made online or by mail, with no deadline for donations. Any funds received after Christmas will be allocated to next year’s campaign.

As winter approaches, the community’s focus turns to supporting one another, embodying the spirit of generosity that defines this season.
