High winds have caused significant power outages across the region, impacting more than 4,200 homes from Salmon Creek Ravine to Beverly Park. The outages, reported late Saturday evening, are attributed to gusts reaching up to 50 mph, with restoration efforts expected to conclude after 3 AM on Sunday.
Earlier in the evening, around 117 homes near Lincoln Park experienced power loss due to similar gusty conditions. The power restoration for this area is anticipated to be complete by 1 AM on Sunday. Weather forecasts warn that these high winds may result in further disruptions as gusts could take out additional power lines.
A wind advisory remains active until 5 AM PDT on Sunday, cautioning residents of the potential hazards associated with strong winds. Southwest winds are forecasted to range from 20 to 30 mph, with peak gusts reaching between 45 and 50 mph. Notable localized gusts, particularly near active showers, could even reach 55 mph.
Residents are advised to secure any loose objects outdoors, as the gusty winds could pose risks by blowing unsecured items around or causing tree limbs to fall. Continued updates on power outages can be monitored through the Seattle City Light website.
This situation highlights the impact of severe weather on local communities, but the proactive measures in place for power restoration and public safety ensure that recovery efforts can be efficiently executed.
