The FONO Pacific Public Service Leaders Conference has commenced in Suva, Fiji, gathering senior officials from 18 Pacific nations, including representatives from New Zealand and Australia. Organized by the Fiji Public Service Commission with governance support from the Public Service Fale, this annual event is themed “Winds of Change: Reimagining Public Service in the Blue Pacific Continent.”
Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Luke Rokovada, expressed that delegates will engage in discussions centered on integrity, ethical leadership, climate resilience, and digital transformation, aimed at enhancing governance and service delivery throughout the region. Rokovada emphasized the importance of this conference as a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration to ensure that public service remains resilient and responsive to community needs.
He referenced the ambition set forth in the 25th Strategy for the Blue Pacific, which envisions a safe, inclusive, and resilient Pacific. Achieving these goals is contingent upon developing public services that are adaptable and inclusive of gender perspectives. As participants share their experiences, Rokovada believes the discussions will help shape a new direction for public service, making it more transparent and future-focused.
The conference will feature an array of panel discussions addressing important issues such as workforce sustainability, public service reforms, and ethical practices. By focusing on these topics, the leaders aim to create a cooperative environment among Pacific nations, ensuring public services are effective and trustworthy.
