“Wildfire Threatens Homes: Evacuations Underway”

The fire has spanned approximately 200 acres and is growing, currently 0% contained.

575 homes across five subdivisions have been evacuated.

Firefighter safety remains a top priority.

Conditions include dry fuels, hot temperatures, steep and rocky terrain, extremely dry weather, and the presence of rattlesnakes.

About 75 firefighters are on the ground, supported by multiple aircraft. One helicopter and a large air tanker are actively working the fire. Resources are limited due to other ongoing fires.

Evacuations

Five subdivisions in south Jefferson County have been evacuated due to a growing wildland fire in an unincorporated area. The affected subdivisions are:

– Deer Creek Mesa
– Sampson
– Maxwell
– McKinney
– Murphy

Evacuation Center

An evacuation center is set up at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, and large animals can be taken to the Jefferson County fairgrounds.

Road Closures

The following roads are currently closed:

– South Valley Road and Deer Creek Canyon Rd.
– Deer Creek Canyon Rd. and South Cougar Rd.
– Deer Creek Canyon Rd. at West Ranch Trail.
– Pleasant Park Rd. and Kuester Rd.

Fire Details and Challenges

The Quarry Fire, detected around 9:30 p.m. on July 30, is a vegetation fire west of Ken Caryl. By 7 a.m. Wednesday, it had zero containment. The area features steep terrain and dense vegetation, with flames observed up to 50 feet high.

Community Safety and Precautions

Residents in and around the affected areas should remain alert, follow evacuation orders, and adhere to safety instructions from local authorities. Fire restrictions are in effect and the fire danger remains very high.
