Pepperdine University experienced a power outage due to the fire, and a shelter-in-place order was initially issued, although it was lifted later that morning. However, ongoing fire risks have led to cancellations of finals for the week, and the university has provided dinner for students in need.
In response to the emergency, the Malibu city government has also evacuated City Hall and activated its Emergency Operations Center. Meanwhile, Southern California Edison has reported significant power outages in the area, coping with the fire’s impact by encouraging residents to conserve water.
Fire conditions remain precarious, with the National Weather Service predicting winds could reach up to 65 mph, coupled with low humidity. This combination presents ideal conditions for further fire spread.
Currently, the fire has not resulted in any reported fatalities or injuries, although it has destroyed a “minimal” number of structures, with specific damage assessments still pending. More than 700 firefighters and aerial support teams are actively working to contain the fire.
