The Oak Ridge Fire ignited on June 28 at 1:45 p.m., located eight miles southwest of Window Rock on the Navajo Nation. This wildfire has already consumed at least 200 acres, with containment efforts currently at 0%. Due to its rapid growth and the potential for further spread, emergency evacuations have been implemented for residents in the affected area.

Navajo Nation officials have reported that the fire poses significant risks along its projected path, especially near the El Paso pipeline corridor, driven by dry fuels and active fire behavior characterized by torching and spotting. In response, Pine Springs Road off Highway 264 has been closed to ensure public safety.

While authorities work to manage the situation, the cause of the fire remains undetermined. For those affected, a shelter has been established for evacuees at the Window Rock Fighting Scouts Event Center in Fort Defiance, with an additional shelter option available at the St. Michael’s Chapter.

As efforts continue to combat the Oak Ridge Fire, it is crucial for residents to stay informed about safety protocols and available resources during this difficult time. This fire highlights the ongoing challenges faced by many communities dealing with wildfires, but underscores the resilience and resourcefulness of local emergency responders and volunteers coming together to support those in need.
