Wienerschnitzel, a well-known hot dog franchise based in the U.S., is set to expand its footprint by opening a location inside a Walmart store in Reno, Nevada, by autumn 2025, as reported by Verdict Food Service. This move marks an exciting new phase for the brand, especially as it has cultivated a strong presence over the years, particularly on the West Coast.
Shak Turner, the director of franchise expansion for Wienerschnitzel, expressed enthusiasm about this growth opportunity, noting that the introduction of their fast-food outlets within Walmart signifies a dynamic shift for the company. This strategic expansion will also see five additional Wienerschnitzel locations established at Walmart stores in various cities, including Alamogordo, New Mexico; Bakersfield, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Puyallup, Washington; and Tempe, Arizona.
Each new Wienerschnitzel restaurant will offer a comprehensive menu featuring favorites such as the chili cheese dog and Tastee Freez soft serve desserts, catering to fast-food lovers looking for quick and satisfying meal options.
Currently, Wienerschnitzel operates 340 franchised locations across 13 states, with an additional 50 units in various development phases. The company is also embracing technology to enhance customer experience, having partnered with Presto Phoenix in March 2025 to implement voice AI ordering technology at its drive-throughs, demonstrating a commitment to innovation alongside growth.
This expansion aligns with broader trends in the food service industry, where convenience and quick service are increasingly important to consumers, particularly in a post-pandemic landscape. As more people prioritize efficiency in their dining choices, Wienerschnitzel’s move to integrate with Walmart may provide a significant boost to both the franchise and Walmart’s offerings.
