Wicked’s Cinematic Debut: What to Expect from the Soundtrack and More!

“Wicked,” celebrated as one of Broadway’s modern classics, is set to make its cinematic debut, accompanied by a soundtrack that will be released concurrently with the film.

The soundtrack, titled “Wicked: The Soundtrack,” is scheduled to launch on November 22, coinciding with the movie’s opening in theaters. Pre-orders for the album are available starting today and it will feature performances of beloved musical numbers like “Popular” and “Defying Gravity,” delivered by stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who portray Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, in the story of their unexpected friendship.

The film adapts Gregory Maguire’s novel that served as the basis for the original musical, which features a score by Stephen Schwartz. The cast also includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, headmistress of Shiz University, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Bowen Yang as Pfannee.

The soundtrack will be released in a variety of formats, including CD, double vinyl, double picture disc, and digital versions. Exclusive editions featuring split pink and green vinyl, as well as an alternate cover, will be available at Target and Barnes & Noble.

“Wicked” is among the most eagerly awaited films of the upcoming season and will be presented in two parts, with the second film scheduled for release in November 2025. Jon M. Chu, known for his work on “In the Heights” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” directs both movies.

The tracklist for the soundtrack has been revealed as well.
