Tickets for the highly anticipated movie musical “Wicked” are now available for purchase as of October 9, as announced exclusively by TODAY. The film, which is set to be released on November 22, features performances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
In a newly released clip promoting the ticket sales, Grande’s character, Glinda, is seen clapping to draw attention before making a significant announcement. The clip also includes footage from the film, showcasing Glinda performing the popular song “Popular.”
Additionally, fans can begin preordering the official “Wicked” soundtrack starting October 9, which will coincide with the film’s release.
To mark the occasion, Universal has unveiled new artwork reminiscent of the original Broadway poster, depicting Grande whispering to Erivo while both are adorned in their character costumes, Glinda and Elphaba.
“Wicked” explores the friendship between Elphaba and Glinda, depicting how their paths diverge after their encounter with The Wizard of Oz. A press release explained that Glinda’s relentless quest for popularity leads her to pursue power, contrasting with Elphaba’s resolve to stay true to herself and the consequences that unfold.
In a video released by Universal Pictures in May, both Grande and Erivo expressed their excitement about taking on these iconic roles. Erivo reflected on the long journey leading to this moment, sharing her gratitude. Grande, overwhelmed with joy upon learning she was cast as Glinda, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to director Jon M. Chu.
