The eagerly anticipated sequel to the hit Broadway sensation, Wicked, titled Wicked: For Good, is set to hit theaters on November 21. Universal Pictures has just released the “On The Set” LEGO Brickified Trailer, offering fans a unique glimpse of the cast in a playful and imaginative format.
Returning to direct is the acclaimed Jon M. Chu, with the spectacular cast led by Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo and pop superstar Ariana Grande. The sequel’s narrative continues to explore the complex dynamics between the beloved characters Elphaba and Glinda, who find themselves estranged and facing the repercussions of their past choices. Elphaba, portrayed by Erivo, is now branded as the Wicked Witch of the West, living in exile in the Ozian forest while championing the rights of the silenced Animals of Oz and seeking to uncover the truth about The Wizard, played by Jeff Goldblum.
Conversely, Glinda enjoys a life of luxury as a symbol of goodness, living in the Emerald City palace and thriving in the spotlight. Under Madame Morrible, played by Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh, Glinda is tasked with maintaining an illusion of well-being for the people of Oz, despite her increasing personal turmoil regarding her friendship with Elphaba. As she prepares for a grand wedding with Prince Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey, the chasm between the two former friends widens, leading to unforeseen consequences for Boq and Glinda’s sister, Nessarose.
Wicked: For Good promises a climactic reunion between Elphaba and Glinda, who must confront their differences with empathy and honesty to forge a new path forward and safeguard the future of Oz. The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Emmy nominee Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James as Glinda’s loyal aides, Pfannee and ShenShen, and Sharon D. Clarke voicing Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear.
Produced by the power duo of Marc Platt and David Stone, the film is inspired by the acclaimed musical with music and lyrics by the legendary Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman. The original film adaptation of Wicked earned significant accolades, including ten Academy Award nominations and a remarkable box office performance of $750 million globally.
Wicked: For Good aims to captivate both long-time fans and new audiences with its rich storytelling and emotional depth, continuing the legacy of friendship themes and the fight for justice at its core.
