Ubisoft’s long-anticipated title, Beyond Good & Evil 2, has managed to survive the company’s recent wave of project cancellations, as revealed by Insider Gaming. This game holds the record as the longest in development, having been announced on May 30, 2008. As of now, it has been in development for an impressive 6445 days, which translates to nearly 17 years and 7 months.

Although the current iteration of Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been in the works since approximately 2017, this still marks a substantial 8-9 years of ongoing development. Despite the extended timelines that often raise skepticism, Ubisoft remains committed to the project. Even in light of a major restructuring that led to the cancellation of six games—including the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake—reports indicate that Beyond Good & Evil 2 continues to progress in development.

The year 2023 has brought significant challenges for the game, particularly with Ubisoft Montpellier facing scrutiny regarding a surge in developer burnout and associated sick leaves. These ongoing issues, coupled with continual changes and delays, are believed to have incurred more than $500 million in development costs. Nevertheless, Ubisoft currently views this investment as justified, reflecting their belief in the game’s potential.

While the exact release date for Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains uncertain, it is clear that it may still be several years before players finally experience this highly awaited title. The enduring passion and commitment from Ubisoft reflect a hope that all the years of effort will ultimately culminate in a game that resonates with its audience.
