The White House has unveiled a comprehensive list of contributors to President Donald Trump’s ambitious new ballroom project, which has sparked controversy following the demolition of the historic East Wing. The project, which encompasses a sprawling 90,000 square feet, has seen donations from over 30 affluent individuals, corporations, and tech giants, as costs are now projected to reach $300 million.
The fundraising efforts for this initiative are organized by the Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit organization dedicated to overseeing federal projects. While many donors have chosen not to disclose specific amounts or make public statements regarding their contributions, the list reveals significant backing from notable companies and individuals.
Among the most prominent donors is Amazon, which contributed $1 million alongside its CEO Jeff Bezos’s company, and Apple, where CEO Tim Cook also donated $1 million. Both companies have seen business ties with the federal government, particularly under the current administration. Comcast Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and several other corporate entities have also chipped in with $1 million each toward the inauguration fund.
Interestingly, substantial funds have come through legal settlements as well. Google contributed $22 million after resolving a lawsuit related to the suspension of Trump’s YouTube account following the January 6 Capitol events. Additionally, Ripple, a cryptocurrency firm, added $4.9 million to the inauguration fund, showcasing a range of financial interests in this presidential endeavor.
Some individuals on the donor list include notable entrepreneurs and investors, such as Harold Hamm, who has close ties with the oil sector, and the Lutnick family, known for their influence in business and finance. Paolo Tiramani, founder of BOXABL, publicly supported the ballroom project, asserting that it would provide a venue befitting the nation’s leadership.
Despite the criticism surrounding the demolition of the East Wing, supporters of the ballroom initiative argue that such enhancements reflect America’s ongoing evolution. They see the project as fulfilling a need for modernized gathering spaces in the historic home of the presidency.
While the hefty price tag and the means of funding have evoked mixed reactions, the grand vision for the ballroom aims to leave a lasting legacy for future administrations, contributing to the architectural fabric of the White House.
