The Boston Red Sox recently held a Zoom meeting with star player Bo Bichette, as reported by Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston. This meeting comes as part of the team’s ongoing efforts to strengthen their batting lineup, with a particular focus on acquiring a powerful slugger.
Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has expressed his desire for a more robust offensive profile, emphasizing the importance of home runs in scoring effectively. During the Winter Meetings, Breslow stated, “Home runs are a foolproof way to put runs on the board,” and acknowledged the common tradeoff of power hitters sacrificing contact ability. However, he remains determined to enhance the team’s offensive output. “Finding someone in the middle of the order who hits the ball out of the park is a really good place to start,” he added.
While Bichette is a name of interest, other players like Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso are also on the Red Sox’s radar, as they look for potential trades that would boost their power-hitting capabilities. The team is scheduled to meet in person with Alonso, also known as the “Polar Bear,” this week. Bichette, who enjoyed an impressive season with a batting line of .311/.357/.483, may be a compelling option too, especially if the Red Sox choose to explore different positions on the field, including second base—a spot currently up for grabs.
In addition to Bichette, the Red Sox are reportedly still pursuing Alex Bregman, indicating that there are several promising options for Breslow and his team as they aim to revitalize their lineup. With a clear strategy in place, Boston fans can remain optimistic about the team’s potential moves this offseason.
