Municipal councils across Fiji’s Western Division have reported minimal infrastructural damage following the recent heavy rainfall. Taitusi Rasoki, the acting CEO of Lautoka City Council, noted that clogged drains, which are commonly encountered during such weather, are being diligently addressed by council workers who are focused on clearing these obstructions.

Peni Duaniwai, CEO of Rakiraki Town Council, confirmed that operations in Rakiraki have returned to normal despite minor drainage issues. He mentioned that while they anticipate additional rainfall, officials are proactively assessing the situation to keep residents informed.

In Tavua, CEO Sireli Korovulavula reported that minimal flooding occurred near the Shop N Save Supermarket car park, which borders the Nasivi River. He expressed concern over damage to Qalela Road and the loop road, which were washed away but still passable; however, repairs are necessary.

Meanwhile, Ba Town Council’s special administrator, Moshim Khan, stated there was significant rainfall with no flooding reported. Nadi Town Council’s special administrator, Saliceni Raiwalui, observed that floodwaters in Nadi had risen briefly but subsequently receded.

Efforts to gather comments from Sigatoka Town Council special administrator Adish Naidu were unsuccessful. However, Fiji Roads Authority CEO Apisai Ketenalagi assured that all roads are now open and operational.

This reflects a resilient response from local authorities as they manage the ongoing weather challenges while ensuring public safety and infrastructure integrity. The proactive measures taken by councils highlight their commitment to maintaining essential services even in adverse conditions.
