West Seattle is buzzing with events today as Summer Fest wraps up its final day, offering a wide variety of activities for locals and visitors alike. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., showcasing lively music from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Side stage, located on SW Alaska near the Wells Fargo drive-thru.
Families can enjoy the Kids Zone from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring free activities alongside ticketed inflatables, situated east of California. Food lovers can explore the Food Court, also open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., which will have shaded seating available this year in both the street and the lot behind KeyBank. Free filtered water refill stations are conveniently placed throughout the festival for attendees to stay hydrated.
In addition to festival offerings, year-round businesses are participating with sidewalk sales and special booths. Merchandise for the festival can be found at the Info Booth, alongside local nonprofits and community groups sharing their initiatives.
Today, the West Seattle Farmers’ Market has a temporary relocation to California SW north of SW Oregon due to Summer Fest, maintaining its hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Though some vendors may not participate due to festival obligations, most will be in attendance, and traffic management will be in place to ensure safety.
Visitors should be aware of road closures related to the festival; California is closed from Oregon to Edmunds and from Oregon to Genesee, as well as Alaska from 42nd to 44th. These closures will remain until the festival is concluded late tonight.
Additional events filling the Sunday schedule include a summer sale at the Moon Room Shop, a run organized by the Westies Run Club, a Little STP bike ride to the festival, and various meet-up activities such as American Mah Jongg sessions, a free Nia fitness class, and discussions at the library on end-of-life topics.
Families can cool off at local spray parks and wading pools, while those interested in history can take free tours of the Alki Point Lighthouse. The outdoor Colman Pool is open as well, featuring a heated salt-water experience.
Other entertainment includes live music at The Alley tonight and a closing performance of ‘The Effect’ at ArtsWest. Additionally, Mayor Bruce Harrell is set to make an appearance during a membership meeting at West Seattle Indivisible this afternoon.
As the local community comes together to enjoy these events, it reinforces the spirit of connection among residents and local businesses. Everyone is encouraged to check the West Seattle Blog community event calendar for updates and to contribute their own events for future coverage.
