West Point, Alabama – The West Point Warriors and Lady Warriors celebrated successful home openers against county rivals Hanceville at Jim Boyd Gymnasium on Tuesday night, securing victories in both contests. The Lady Warriors staged a remarkable second-half comeback, outscoring Hanceville 30-8 for a decisive 59-35 win. Meanwhile, the boys’ team was led by a stellar performance from Maddox Chapman, who scored 33 points, guiding the Warriors to a 73-47 triumph.
Before the girls’ matchup began, Lady Warriors Head Coach John Welborn received recognition for achieving his 200th career win at West Point, a milestone reached during their recent victory at Holly Pond. Following Tuesday’s win, Welborn’s career record now stands at 201-104.
In the boys’ game, the Warriors faced some early back-and-forth scoring. Initially, Hanceville’s Drake Bentley scored a three-pointer and free throws that gave the Bulldogs a narrow lead. However, Maddox Chapman quickly put West Point in the lead with his free-throw shooting. As the game progressed, West Point constructed a solid lead, entering halftime ahead 30-20. The third quarter saw West Point extend its lead further, and despite some resistance from Hanceville, the Warriors never relinquished control, finishing the game with a comfortable margin.
In the girls’ game, both teams exchanged leads in the first half, but it was West Point that found its rhythm after halftime. The Faulkner sisters, Camryn and Jaelyn, were key players, contributing significantly to a scoring run that widened West Point’s advantage. Their impressive performance helped seal a comprehensive win, with Camryn leading the scoring with 20 points and Jaelyn closely following with 19.
