A significant brush fire, spanning 960 acres, ignited Thursday afternoon in the West Hills area near the 101 Freeway. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the flames were advancing southward, posing a threat to residential areas until firefighters could establish perimeter lines.

In response to the rapid growth of the fire, a mandatory evacuation order was issued for the region stretching from Vanowen south to Burbank Boulevard and from County Lane Road east to East Valley Circle Boulevard. Additionally, several evacuation warnings were enacted for nearby areas bordering the fire zone, as addressed by Cal Fire.

Cal Fire confirmed that water-dropping aircraft were deployed to assist in battling the blaze, with firefighting teams from both Los Angeles and Ventura counties actively working to contain the fire amidst challenging terrain and the influence of strong Santa Ana winds. As of Thursday evening, the fire has reached 35% containment, reflecting the ongoing efforts of the firefighting teams.

By 8:30 p.m., authorities had lifted all evacuation advisories, indicating progress in managing the situation. Notably, a wireless emergency alert was disseminated to residents across Los Angeles County, although it was specific to individuals in areas affected by the Kenneth Fire in West Hills.

This situation remains dynamic, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

With continued containment efforts and the support of dedicated firefighters, there is hope for a swift resolution to the fire, ensuring the safety of local residents.
