Wendie Malick Unveils Heartwarming Behind-the-Scenes Bond with Harrison Ford

Wendie Malick has shared a charming behind-the-scenes story from the set of “Shrinking,” highlighting her bond with co-star Harrison Ford. In a recent interview at the premiere of the Apple TV+ show’s second season, the 73-year-old actress spoke about their growing friendship and the unique traditions they have while filming.

“He lets me ride around in his little golf cart that says ‘Cowboy’ on it,” Malick revealed. “He always picks me up and takes me to the stage, which is very generous of him. I have to say, he is one of the loveliest, most generous, and funny leading men I’ve ever had.”

Malick also mentioned that Ford acts as her personal wine expert, introducing her to exceptional wines and whipping up delightful cocktails. Recalling Ford’s tenure as PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 1998, she expressed an understanding of his enduring appeal.

“Harrison has such lasting power, and it doesn’t matter that he’s getting older; it’s that mischievous smile he carries,” she noted. “His dry sense of humor, which is irresistible, shows that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. There’s something very appealing about that.”

In their second season, Malick said she and Ford have built “a good rapport,” which helps portray their on-screen relationship as love interests. She explained that their dynamic shifted when her character, Dr. Julie Baram, transitions from being his doctor to a romantic interest following his character, Dr. Paul Rhoades’s, Parkinson’s diagnosis.

“What I love about this show is it reflects what many of us face—unexpected loss and health issues—and how we choose our family later in life,” Malick added. “It’s about the friends we want in our lives, not just blood relations.”

In addition to “Shrinking,” Malick stars in the new Hallmark+ series “The Chicken Sisters” as Augusta “Gus” Moore, the owner of a fried chicken restaurant. She described her preparation for the role, which is based on a bestselling novel, and how she added her personal touch to the character.

“They provided a description and moved the setting to a fictional southern town,” she explained. “The townspeople portrayed her as somewhat of a witch or a mean old person, so I thought, ‘What if she’s more of an old hippie and a hoarder?’ I imagined her in overalls and men’s boots, with long, steely gray hair, which sounded like great fun to me.”

She humorously mentioned that this character allowed for the easiest hair, makeup, and wardrobe she’s ever had.

The second season of “Shrinking” is set to premiere on Wednesday, October 16, on Apple TV+.
