Wembanyama’s Comeback: Spurs Gear Up for an Exciting Season!

The San Antonio Spurs are set to welcome back their star player, Victor Wembanyama, for the 2025-26 season. In an announcement made to L’Équipe, Wembanyama confirmed that he has fully recovered from the blood clot in his shoulder that kept him out for the entirety of the previous season after appearing in just 46 games. “I’m officially cleared to return. It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs’ medical staff just a few hours ago,” Wembanyama expressed, clearly excited to rejoin the court.

Wembanyama’s injury, diagnosed as deep vein thrombosis, was revealed after he returned from All-Star Weekend in February, leading the Spurs to announce that he would miss the rest of the season. Thankfully, the team’s earlier confidence in his recovery appears to be justified, as he now looks forward to returning to competitive play.

Before his injury, Wembanyama showcased remarkable talent, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and leading the league with an impressive 3.8 blocks per game. His defensive prowess made him a strong contender for the Defensive Player of the Year title and a likely All-NBA selection.

In addition to Wembanyama’s return, the Spurs are looking forward to a promising roster for the upcoming season. They have recently traded for versatile big man Kelly Olynyk and will be pairing Wembanyama with De’Aaron Fox, who joined the team at last year’s trade deadline. The roster also includes young talents like Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell, Rookie of the Year guard Stephon Castle, and new additions such as Luke Kornet and Carter Bryant, the No. 14 pick in the recent draft.

With Wembanyama back and a revitalized lineup, the Spurs seem poised for a brighter future, further building on their foundation to improve upon their recent 34-48 season record. The return of such a dynamic player not only brings hope to the fanbase but also promises exciting basketball action ahead.
