Significant weather changes are anticipated later this week as a storm system approaches the region, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms starting Friday and continuing into Saturday. The heaviest rainfall is expected Friday evening and overnight, with forecasts indicating total accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches in some areas.

The highest flood risk will primarily affect locations to the east of Interstate 35. Although the risk of severe weather is categorized as low, some storms may produce damaging winds and hail, placing parts of North Texas under a level 1 severe weather risk on Friday.

This impending rain has prompted several high school football teams to reassess their Friday night schedules, with many games likely to be postponed due to the expected conditions.

Typically, October is the second-wettest month of the year, averaging over four inches of rain at DFW International Airport; however, the area has only seen 0.24 inches of rainfall so far this month. This upcoming storm system offers much-needed moisture and could significantly alleviate the abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions affecting many areas.
