The Water Authority has announced that maintenance work is scheduled for the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend, which may temporarily disrupt water supply in various areas. The crucial maintenance is set to commence at 3 PM on Saturday, with water supply expected to start restoring in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The planned work involves replacing a defective valve at the plant’s inlet that regulates the flow of raw water from the Savura Raw Water Pump Station. This valve has been identified by WAF engineers as a source of unstable water inflows, leading to operational strain on the overall water supply system. By conducting this maintenance proactively, the Water Authority aims to prevent a potential major asset failure and to improve the reliability and resilience of the Tamavua water supply.
Due to the planned shutdown, the treatment capacity at the Tamavua Plant will be reduced by approximately 50%. Customers in affected areas may experience low water pressure, intermittent supply, or temporary outages. The Water Authority plans to prioritize supply to essential services, such as CWM Hospital, throughout the maintenance period.
Water production is projected to resume at 3 AM on Sunday, although full service restoration may take several hours as reservoirs are replenished and treatment processes stabilize. Customers are urged to store adequate water in advance of the shutdown and to use it sparingly, avoiding non-essential activities like watering gardens or washing cars.
To assist residents facing supply disruptions, water carting trucks will be on standby. The community’s cooperation during this maintenance period is appreciated, as it will ultimately lead to improved service and reliability in the water supply system.
